Kirkwood Road

The Kirkwood Road upgrade project involved the construction of a new offramp from the Pacific Motorway , connecting to Kirkwood Road in Tweed Heads. SEE Civil was responsible for all safety, environmental, quality and commmunity management for the project. The Kirkwood Road upgrade project included the construction of new pavements, significant service relocations, installation of noise barriers and construction of earth retaining walls.

Scope of Works

SEE Civil's scope of works at Kirkwood Road included:

  • Earthworks associated with a one kilometre extension of Kirkwood Road, including around 42,000 cubic metres of import material from an external fill site.
  • Construction of asphalt and bituminous pavements
  • Service relocation of 900 dia. and 600 dia sewer mains, including access chambers and inspection strucutres.
  • Installation of approximately 38,000 cubic metres of preload material on soft soils for a period of 12 months.
  • Construction of a new timber pedestrian bridge
  • Management of works around identified Aboriginal Cultural Heritage areas.
  • Traffic Management on the Pacific Highway under live traffic conditions
  • Installation of approximately 5000 square metres of noise barrier walls

The Kirkwood Road east interchange roundabout was constructed as part of the project.

The extension of Kirkwood Road included the construction of a new off ramp fromt he Pacific Motorway.

The project also involved the construction of significant noise wall to protect the local community from road noise in the future.
