Aquila is an underground hard-coking coal mine near Middlemount, which will extend the life of Anglo American’s existing Capcoal underground operations by six years to 2028, and continue to optimise the Capcoal complex.

The Overland Conveyor area involves bulk earthworks, pavements, piling, structures footings, and finishing works for the incoming contractor to install the conveyor mechanical and electrical.

The Pit G area of the project is to be raised approximately 3m for flood immunity from a Q2000 flood event and involves upgrading the current Road into the pit, installing drainage culverts, piling works, structures for the conveyor foundations, precast retaining walls, bulk earthworks, and pavements.

  • 787,000 cubic metres of cut to fill works.
  • 218,000 cubic metres of cut to stockpile works.
  • 13,850 cubic metres of pavement materials.
  • 435 metres of drainage culverts.
  • 1,380 metres of 600-900 diameter bored piles.
  • 1,913 metres of 300 diameter bored piles.
  • 990 cubic metres of concrete slabs and footings.
  • 1,765 metres guardrail.
  • 117,000 square metres of topsoiling.

  • 15,220 cubic metres pavement material.
  • 240 metres of drainage culverts.
  • 485 metres 600 diameter bored piles.
