The project is developing a new intersection with the Gold Coast Highway and providing motorists with direct access into the Gold Coast Airport via the GTI Carpark and existing southern access road.

Project Scope

The project scope includes the following:

  • Traffic signals

  • Stormwater drainage – RCPs and culverts
  • Rising main sewer provisions
  • Communications reticulation
  • Power upgrades and provisions
  • Earthworks
  • Road pavements
  • Concrete kerb and islands
  • Concrete footpaths
  • Roundabout
  • Roundabout hardscaping
  • Augmentation of existing carpark access
  • Landscaping including irrigation, plants and trees
  • Hydromulch and turf
  • Signage and line marking
  • Management and treatment of PFAS groundwater and materials across site
  • Environmental monitoring.

The proposed new intersection connecting the Gold Coast Highway to Gold Coast Airport will provide the following benefits to the local community, visitors and tourists coming in and out of the Gold Coast Airport:

  • Provide the required transport infrastructure to enable efficient transport connectivity to the Gold Coast Airport
  • Better access to/from Gold Coast Airport
  • Provide safe operational access and connectivity to the adjacent areas
  • New pedestrian and cyclists’ facility.
Key construction elements

  • Cut Volume: 8,000m3
  • Fill Volume: 8,000m3
  • Foam Bitumen: 7,000 tonnes
  • Asphalt: 3,100 tonnes
  • Concrete: 1,400m3
  • Traffic Signals: Three-way intersection
  • 3 Culvert Structures in active waterways.
Temporary Traffic Management

The works are situated on the Queensland / New South Wales border and therefore affects three jurisdictions including New South Wales, Queensland and Commonwealth lands. Temporary traffic management staging involving design, construction and implementation to facilitate construction works on the Gold Coast Highway. The temporary traffic management includes:

  • Temporary pavement design and construction
  • Temporary traffic control implementation – barriers, gate entrances and exit location, signage and VMS boards
  • Temporary line marking
  • Temporary lighting.
