1988

SOUTH EAST EXCAVATIONS IS BORN

Brothers Bruce and Brian Turner establish South East Excavations in the Tweed Shire. Backed by their experience gained working in their family civil construction business, Turners Excavations (based in Wagga Wagga), Brian and Bruce move their families north to take advantage of work opportunities in the growing Tweed Shire region.

South East Excavations get underway with their first contract a small subdivision called Norths Lane at Nunderi, near Murwillumbah.

1995

SEE GROUP FAMILY HOME

With the brother’s work orders and team slowly growing, South East Excavations opens the first head office at Chinderah, New South Wales.

While the SEE team has grown and moved just around the corner, our original office still has a presence of history today.

1996

Shaping the gold coast

South East Excavations is awarded the civil construction package for the Pacific Pines subdivision on the Gold Coast. The first package was the start of a near 20 year working relationship with Stockland developments to deliver one of the Gold Coast’s largest and most influential subdivisions.

1998

Our first transport for nsw project

South East Excavations was awarded its first significant road project for the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), now Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to complete the earthworks for the Gap Road Deviation in New South Wales.

1999

AWARDED CIVIL CONTRACTORS FEDERATION EARTH AWARD FOR FLAME TREE PARK

Flame Tree Park – a South East Excavations subdivision project is announced as the national winner of a Civil Contractors Federation Earth Award.

2004

Salt Village development in casuarina

South East Excavations is awarded the Salt Village development in Casuarina. The project was an opportunity for directors Brian and Bruce to showcase their skills with Brian spearheading the construction of a silenced dredge to pump sand about 7.5 kilometers from a sand mining site to the Salt site as opposed to using trucks.

2005

SEE GROUP WELCOMES STEVE TURNER TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Steve has more than 25 years of industry experience ranging from field and operational roles to high-level leadership roles. Appointed to his current role as Managing Director in 2005, Steve oversees high-level operations and growth strategies for SEE Group businesses, ensuring his Executive Leadership team achieves strategic business plans and direction.

2016

SEE GROUP WELCOMES MARK TURNER TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Mark has more than 20 years of civil construction industry experience in high-level site supervision and construction management roles. He brings invaluable insights and expertise to SEE Group’s machinery fleet strategy, driving optimal performance and innovative practices that ensure our projects stay ahead of the curve.

Having worked with SEE Group since 2005, Mark was appointed as the Executive Director – Plant and Logistics in 2016, overseeing high-level management and performance monitoring of the SEE Group’s large fleet of machinery and equipment. Mark is the powerhouse that drives the performance and success of our projects and production.

2017

CIVIL RENT IS ESTABLISHED

Established in 2017, the Civil Rent team now manages and maintains a modern fleet of construction machinery including highway trucks, as well as 230 light vehicles across Queensland and Northern NSW.

The Civil Rent team of trade-qualified technicians and specialists support our mining, infrastructure, residential, and quarrying projects. The Maintenance team is supported by a highly skilled admin team utilising market-leading technology and software to streamline their processes.

2018

SEE CIVIL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS!

In a remarkable journey spanning three decades, SEE Civil has consistently exemplified excellence in the construction industry. As we marked our 30th anniversary on the timeline, we reflected on a legacy of innovation, commitment, and unwavering dedication.

2019

ACQUISITION OF DMC QUARRIES

SEE Group acquires Darryl McCarthy Constructions – a quarrying business based in Tenterfield, NSW.

DMC Quarries has been supplying quarry materials for more than 40 years from sites across the New England region.

2019

SEE GROUP WELCOMES PETA NEWTON TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Peta has over 16 years’ experience working across SEE Group operations. She was appointed Executive Director – Corporate Services in 2019, following several years as the Group’s People and Culture Manager.

In her current role, Peta is responsible for the strategic direction of the Group’s shared services, including Legal and Commercial, IT, People and Culture, Workplace Health and Safety and the Integrated Management Systems. Dedicated to driving a high-performing inclusive culture and challenging the cultural status quo, Peta delivers a seamless and positive employee experience for SEE Group.

2021

SEE GROUP WELCOMES JOEL BARNES TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Joel has more than 18 years’ experience in key project leadership roles, delivering major road, rail and civil infrastructure projects. In 2021 Joel was appointed to Executive Director – Operations after unprecedented success since joining SEE Civil in 2016 as a Construction Manager.

As Executive Director – Operations, Joel leads the performance, continuous improvement and management of the SEE Civil business. Implementing strategic business goals, and living our culture and values, Joel builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates mutually beneficial business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions.
