SEE Civil is proud to have been the only civil contractor working on the Empire Industrial Estate since it began in April 2015. The Empire Estate is 127 hectares in area and is divided into 10 Stages. SEE Civil has completed the earthworks and civil engineering packages for Stages 1 to 10, and recently completed civil work for stages 7A, 7B, and the External Roundabout Upgrade.

One of the challenges of this project was the need for a substantial retaining wall system reaching up to 10 meters high. We used our RockBlock product to address this challenge. We also did significant earthworks, which involved drilling, blasting, and crushing of rock material. SEE Civil mobilised equipment to produce drainage materials for the project using site-won materials.

Work progressed with bulk excavation at a rate of approximately 9,500 cubic meters per day. Extensive civil work and upgraded external infrastructure were completed to support the development of large industrial and commercial facilities for the area.

Project Scope

  • Over 4,500,000m3 of bulk earthworks.
  • Over 40,000m3 rock-facing batters.
  • Over 1,000,000 tonnes of blasted material crushed on site.
  • Over 500,000m3 blasted rock to date.
  • 3,000 m2 retaining wall up to 10m in height. Some wall sections were found on piles due to suspected ground conditions.
  • 600mm deep pavements constructed.
  • Over 70,000m2 pavements constructed with 20,000m2 pavements in future stages.
Key Construction Elements

GROUND RETENTION
  • Construction of a retaining wall with a total area of 1,000 square meters, reaching heights of up to 10 meters.
  • Construction of piles for unsuitable ground conditions.
Pavements
  • Installation of 600mm deep pavements.
  • Constructed over 70,000 square meters of pavements, with an additional 20,000 square meters planned for future stages.
Material processing
  • Processing of over 500,000 cubic meters of rock.
Bulk earthworks
  • Excavated and filled over 4,500,000 cubic meters of earthworks to date.
  • Created more than 40,000 cubic meters of rock facing batters.
  • Drill and blast excavation of over 500,000 cubic meters of materials
