Client

Gold Coast Airport

Location

Gold Coast, Queensland

Value

$9.6m

Duration

November 2017 – April 2018

Status

Complete

The Ground Transport Infrastructure (GTI) project was initially awarded as a single stage project to facilitate the infill of a portion of Coolangatta Creek unlocking a new portion of land for a Hotel development to commence.

This included extension of large stormwater infrastructure and careful management of large stormwater catchment flows.

Based on the site teams’ approach and strength of delivery the subsequent3 additional stages were negotiated between the parties to complete the precinct development.

Each of the four stages was awarded under an Early Contractor Involvement process, allowing SEE Civil to act as a trusted advisor to the client through the design and planning process.

Project Scope

Throughout the project’s life this has progressed to a four-stage concurrent project. Some of SEE Civil’s scope of works across the four stages include:

  • Staged sheet piling works to create multiple coffer dams and enable drainage filling activities.
  • Staged dewatering, including stringent environmental management, of Coolangatta Creek to enable the diversion of stormwater drainage and filling activities.
  • Construction of Acid Sulfate and PFAS treatment areas and on-site treatment of contaminated soils (ASS & PFAS leachate).
  • Backfilling of drainage areas with 25,000 cubic metres of onsite spoil from concurrent airport projects.
  • Demolition of existing stormwater infrastructure.
  • Installation of 1200 and 1800 diameter stormwater pipes in water charged ground through terminal existing essential services network.
  • Construction of stormwater drainage pipework, pits, culverts, headwalls and open drainage channels to manage existing flows (10 yr ARI flows of 12m3 per second).
  • Installation of an Aquaceptor Gross Pollutant Trap in water charged ground.
  • Construction of access roads including subgrade treatments, sub-basecourse, kerbing and asphalt layers.
  • Creation of new carpark (Ground Transport Staging Hub) including asphalt, line marking and lighting installation.

As Principal Contractor, SEE Civil has ultimate responsibility of Environmental Management, Traffic Management and Work Health and Safety on site.
