SEE Civil successfully manufactured, supplied, placed, and compacted 170,874 tonnes of plant-mixed foamed bitumen stabilised material to the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway Upgrade.
This material was paver placed using a Dynapac SD2550CS Crawler Paver with a screed width between 3.7-6.0m and a compacted layer thickness between 190-195mm.
The 170,874 tonnes of foamed bitumen stabilized material was paved at an average productivity of 965T/ shift over 176 productive shifts.
The project presented numerous challenges specifically around access to paving areas due to live traffic staging and areas paved between bridge spans enclosed with adjacent concrete safety barriers. These areas required innovative steel covers and rubber matting to safely cross bridge decks to prevent damage of permanent structures. SEE Civil’s innovative solution was extremely beneficial to the client with the minimisation of defects or rework to permanent structures.
At the completion of the project, SEE Civil successfully demonstrated that an onerous specified ride quality regime was achievable such that 0% deductions and 2% incentives were a regular achievement.
Between Nov-18 and Mar-20 combinations of loose layer thickness, roll patterns, roll/ paving speeds, and moisture conditioning were iterated onsite until 100% survey conformance and 0% ride deductions became business as usual. This outcome achieved significant cost and program benefits for the client.
